About the register.

SalaryThread is an open, anonymous record of Australian wages. Six hundred and ninety workers have filed what they’re paid — voluntarily, unverified, and without the recruiter spin.

What this is

SalaryThread is a free, anonymous platform for sharing and exploring Australian salary data. Anyone can file an entry without creating an account or providing any personal details. The goal is simple: help Australians understand what people actually earn.

The dataset

The register currently contains:

Every entry is self-reported and unverified. We do not independently confirm submissions. Treat the data as a general reference, not a definitive source of salary truth.

How we handle entries

Collection. When you file an entry, we collect only the fields you provide: role, industry, city, base salary, bonus, level, years of experience, and optional notes. We do not ask for your name, email, or any identifying information.

Publication. Entries are added to the public register in aggregate. We publish the number, not the person. Submissions that appear obviously fraudulent or abusive are removed.

Thresholds. Role, industry, and city pages with fewer than three entries are marked noindex to avoid thin-content pages while the register grows.

Methodology

Median over mean. Every statistic on the site uses the median rather than the mean. Wage distributions are right-skewed — a handful of very high earners drag the mean up. The median better reflects what most workers earn.

Base salary. Entries report annualised base pay in AUD before tax, excluding superannuation. Bonuses are captured separately. “Total comp” figures are not used in the default displays.

Interquartile range. The 25th and 75th percentiles (p25 — p75) on page headers describe the middle half of earners for that slice.

Why anonymous

Australian workplace culture is allergic to wage talk. Most people never find out they’re underpaid until they change jobs. Published ranges are usually recruiter fiction. A fully anonymous register removes the friction that stops people sharing honestly.

The network

SalaryThread is part of a small network of Australian information sites operated by the same team:
